Ramon Hernandez
Business Manager
Ramon has been a member of the Laborers’ International Union Local 261 since 1986. He worked extensively in the construction industry with Roberts Obayashi, Swinerton Builders, Cahill and others. Ramon was elected by his peers to represent them as auditor in 1999 and later served the union as vice-president and president.
Following the election of Oscar De La Torre to the top position in the Northern California District Council of Laborers, Ramon was elected by a unanimous vote to succeed De La Torre as the Business Manager of Laborers Local 261, and has been re-elected twice since. He has kept the bar extremely high at the Local Union and can often be seen at the job-sites, on the picket lines, at state buildings, at City Hall, and even in many of the diverse neighborhoods of San Francisco organizing for workers, advocating for favorable legislation and policy decisions and assisting candidates who favor working people. Ramon is committed to plugging union members into all organizing and political efforts that make our union one of the most influential in the Bay Area.
Ramon was appointed by Mayor Edwin Lee to serve on the Workforce Investment Board in 2013, and serves as Labor Trustee on various State-wide Labor/Management Trust Funds.
Ramon has been married for 29 years to his wife Maria, and has two sons Diego and Ramon, and one daughter Alejandra.
